A few years ago, my attorney created an Irrevocable Charitable Remainder Trust in which I could place funds for charitable purposes. The AAO Foundation is currently listed as a twenty-five percent beneficiary of the trust.

I chose the AAO Foundation as a beneficiary of my Charitable Remainder Trust because, from the very beginning of its creation, I felt that the Foundation was an excellent idea.

I, as a member of the AAO, was able to have a long and successful orthodontic practice. My son, Daniel, is now continuing in that practice. Orthodontics, in general provide a unique service to the public. The benefits to individuals and families are truly immeasurable. The fact that treated patients return to the office with their children is a testimony to our success. The recipients of the funds in the Foundation have already helped and will continue to help make orthodontics even better.

I feel that this is an excellent vehicle because, first, it is irrevocable and, secondly, because I can continue to add funds to the trust. An additional benefit, in my case is that the funds are in common stocks and, hopefully, the stocks will gain in value. I also have the option of changing the stocks in the Trust.

Famed Ohio State University football coach, Woody Hayes, had a favorite expression: "Pay Forward." I feel that when we support the AAOF, we are doing exactly that. We are paying forward for the betterment of our profession and the people that we serve.
